The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) invites stakeholders, interested or affected persons, and the general public to comment on K-Electric Limited’s proposed modification to Generation Licence No. GL/04/2002. The proposal is being considered under Regulation 10 of the NEPRA Licensing (Application, Modification, Extension and Cancellation) Procedure Regulations 2021.
K-Electric seeks approval to retain Unit 5 of Bin Qasim Power Station-I as a secondary reserve until financial year 2030. The company cites electricity demand growth, fuel supply security and operational flexibility as reasons for retaining the unit, which can operate on both gas and furnace oil.
K-Electric has requested annual operations and maintenance costs of PKR 152 million, including relevant indexation, instead of passing through PKR 73 million in the tariff. It argues that retaining the unit would improve reliability, reduce reliance on expensive high-speed diesel generation and support the availability of its generation fleet.
Comments supporting or opposing the proposed modification must reach the Registrar’s office within 14 days from the date of publication. The proposal and supporting documents are available at www.nepra.org.pk/news.php.
Contact: Wasim Anwar Bhinder, Registrar, NEPRA, NEPRA Tower, Ataturk Avenue (East), G-5/1, Islamabad. Telephone: 051-9206500 or 051-2013200. Fax: 051-2600026. Email: [email protected].
Submission or communication of the proposal, and its acceptance for consideration by NEPRA, do not constitute approval.
