ZTBL Career Opportunity: Resident Shariah Board Member (RSBM) – Head Office Islamabad

Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) invites applications for the position of Resident Shariah Board Member (RSBM) at its Head Office, Islamabad. One (1) post on contract basis for three (3) years (extendable). Applications are accepted online only.

Experience & Expertise: Candidates must be Shariah scholars with at least four (4) years’ experience of issuing Shariah rulings including the period of Takhassus fil Ifta; or at least five (5) years post-qualification experience in teaching or research & development in Islamic banking and finance. Preference will be given to scholars with Takhassus fil Fiqh/Takhassus fil Ifta.

Additional preferred experience: minimum three (3) years as a Shariah Advisor or member of a Shariah Board/Committee of an Islamic Financial Institution (IFI) or deputy to a Shariah Advisor; strong understanding of banking & finance, Fiqh al-Muamalat, Usul al-Fiqh and fiqh methodologies.

Qualification (one of the following):

• Shahadat ul Alamiya (Dars-e-Nizami) or equivalent from a recognized Board of Madaris plus a Bachelor’s degree (other than Madaris degree); OR
• Postgraduate degree in Kuliyyatush Shariah or Kuliyyah Usooluddin or LL.M. (Shariah) or equivalent from a recognized university; OR
• Shariah scholars who are members of Shariah Boards/Committees of internationally reputed organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide Shariah rulings, explanations and clarifications to management and staff regarding IBL/IFI products, documents, processes, flows and Shariah-related matters.
• Ensure provision of necessary information, details and documents to enable the bank to have proper understanding of products, processes, business and Shariah permissibility.
• Guide the Shariah Compliance Department (SCD) in conducting Shariah compliance reviews of key business areas and review responses to Shariah-related queries from clients regarding products and services.
• Facilitate SCD and Training Department in designing & conducting training activities, submit at least quarterly reports to the Shariah Board, and ratify/clarify material explanations provided on products, services and related matters.

• Maximum age limit: 61 years as on closing date.
