Issuer: K-Electric (KE). Purpose: Public safety warning about unauthorised wires, cables and installations encroaching on KE power networks that create serious safety hazards including sparking, short-circuiting, fire, current leakage and risk of fatalities.
Details: KE states that its high-voltage power infrastructure is operated by trained personnel and must comply with strict safety parameters. Illegal encroachments by private internet providers, TV cable operators and others — including unauthorised distribution boxes, lights, switches and wiring attached to transmission towers, poles, transformers and distribution network equipment — are prohibited. Such unauthorised connections are illegal and KE reserves the right to remove or disconnect them without notice. KE does not permit or authorize any third parties to use its infrastructure or demand compensation for such use.
Consequences and legal action: Damaging or destroying KE transmission or distribution infrastructure can result in penalties of not less than 3 million Pakistani Rupees and/or imprisonment of up to seven (07) years under the Pakistan Penal Code 1860. KE strongly condemns such acts and urges public cooperation with civic and administrative authorities to ensure installations comply with power-safety codes and to avoid encroachments that endanger the public and KE technical teams.
